Jessica came to visit from Nairobi so we went to Gheralta for the weekend in the Tigray Region.
I loved it.
I kept yelling about how everything looks like Utah and I kept making sure everyone knew it. Except Utah needs some churches from the 4th century carved into solid stone complete with perfectly preserved murals.

that band of sweat across my chest isn’t from exertion but from terror (see video below)
the ceiling in Abune Yematah
definitely the cliffiest weekend on record
We went to the Simien Mountains. I was excited but I don’t think I was properly prepared for how beautiful it was going to be. I was trying to narrow down what pictures I should upload and… I failed.
I refuse to stop talking about Ethiopia
thanks for the photo ops, that’s about all he was good for
the Queen of Gich
so many weird landscapes
this guy was oozing honor
the bud hons at Imit Gogo
this moss was being so dramatic I wanted to slap it
Bradley said my feet looked “like flaming hot Cheetos”
this pic perfectly sums up our trip: our bodyguard standing around, me underdressed for the weather in awkward colors, and a crow
“if you drop a penny off the top…something something… it will kill everyone” or however the urban legend goes…
one of my favorite pics from the trip
yes, that’s snow
I’ve become Ethiopia’s biggest cheerleader over the last few years. I was lucky enough to get an internship with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Addis Ababa. I figured now it’s about time I should start posting the rest of the pictures from my trip to Ethiopia last year. Here are some more from the Debre Damo Monastery (my Shangri-La) between Axum and Adigrat:
the majestic mesa hosting Debre Damo
climbing up the only access to Debre Damo, a 50 foot leather rope
bud hons living on the edge
I want to take all the doors cut out of solid wood home
Father Cuba Gooding Jr.
and of course a hundred glamor shots of Aba Tewalde

sometimes this guy makes me lose my mind
the obligatory crystal castles pic
When you book a trip using skymiles sometimes you get obscene layovers. I was lucky enough to get an incredibly long layover in Cairo. I had two and a half days to find as many trinkets as possible.
